Mr. Nika Gilauri, Founder and Managing Partner, together with the team of high level experts of Reformatics met with the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Mr. Bakytzhan Sagintayev, to evaluate Kazakhstan’s progress in the Doing Business report and discuss further reforms.
Kazakhstan improved its Doing Business (DB) ranking, reaching 35th place worldwide in the DB 2017 report. It is noteworthy that when Reformatics started advising the Government of Kazakhstan on business environment and Doing Business reforms, the country was at the 77th place worldwide (DB 2015 report). Thanks to targeted consultancy services and tailor-made recommendations based on hand-on experience of Reformatics’ experts, Kazakhstan emerged as the top reformer in DB 2016 and as the second best reformer in DB 2017.
“Since 2014, Reformatics has provided consultancy to the Kazakh government. Kazakhstan achieved impressive results advancing in the DB ranking from 77 to #41* (DB 2016) and then from #41 to #35 (DB 2017). It is encouraging to see the determination and motivation of Kazakhstan’s Government to improve the country’s investment climate and increase competitiveness. We are very excited and look forward to working with Kazakh government on business environment and other topics in 2017,” said Mr. Nika Gilauri.
The DB reform map clearly visualizes the progress achieved by Kazakhstan expressed in number of reforms implemented.
This year Kazakhstan improved its ranking in seven topics of Doing Business, which includes: Starting a Business, Dealing with Construction Permits, Getting Electricity, Protecting Minority Investors, Trading Across Borders, Enforcing Contracts, Resolving Insolvency. Kazakhstan is now better positioned in the DB ranking than countries such as Italy, Belgium and Hungary. It also by-passed its regional competitors, such as the Russian Federation and Belarus.
